"A Christ-Focused Church On A Defined Mission"

What to Expect

Thus, when you are visiting any church for the first time, the unknown factors can make you a little nervous.  We do not want unanswered questions to cause you anxiety so we are providing a few answers to some common questions such as: Where Do I Go?, Where Do I Park?, What Time Is Service?. What’s Available For My Children?, What Do I Wear?, and What Can I Expect In Worship Service?

Attending the Pilgrim Baptist Church, we trust you will discover we are a group of imperfect people working toward perfection as believers in Jesus Christ for our salvation.  We pray you will discover we have genuine love for God’s Word, one another, and all who enters our place of worship. You may find the following information to be helpful as you plan for your visit.

Where Do I Go?

When you arrive at Pilgrim Baptist Church there will be someone to greet you at the main entrance of the church building on 25th and Hamilton Street for morning worship service to assist you with any directions you may need.  If you desire to attend Sunday School you will enter through the rear parking lot office entrance to go to the Leola Jones Fellowship Hall.

Note: Due to COVID-19, please enter through the rear parking lot church office entrance.  ALL services are in the sanctuary.  We are following the CDC guidelines so further instructions will be provided thereafter.

Where Do I Park?

We have two parking lots, one is in the rear of the church, the other parking lot is across the street from the church in front of our garage, and there is off street parking on 25th Street.

What Time is Service?

Morning worship service begins at 9:00 am in the Leola Jones Fellowship Hall.  Sunday School begins at 8:30 am.  We have classes you may choose to attend by age for children preschool through the 12th grade, young adult, adult, men’s, women’s, and Bible study classes.

What’s Available for My Children?

Not to mention, we have Sunday School, Bible Study, Children Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Music Ministry.

What Do I Wear?

There is not a strict dress code at Pilgrim Baptist Church for our members or guests.  In case you are wondering, our ministry leaders and many of our church members dress in a more traditional “Sunday-Best” style of dress.  Typically the men wear a nice dress shirt with or without a neck tie and a pair of nice dress slacks.  The women wear modest apparel appropriate for worship in God’s house.  However, our main goal is that you feel welcome and comfortable for your visit to Pilgrim Baptist Church.

What Can I Expect In The Worship Service?

Singing

At every worship service you will be blessed to hear music presented by our various choirs and soloists; you will have an opportunity to join us in singing hymns and spiritual songs as a congregation.

Prayer

We are a church that believes in prayer.  During the service, prayers are led by different members of the church.  Some of these prayers deal with the needs and requests of our church family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and for our community and nation.

Preaching

We consider the preaching and teaching of the Word of God to be the most important time of the service.  We believe that the best help you can get comes from the instruction you receive from the Word of God.

Invitation

First, at the end of the preaching, Pastor Perkins or one of the Associate Ministers will ask everyone to stand and will give an invitation.  If you are a first time visitor and desire to give your life to Christ and/or unite with the Pilgrim Baptist Church, please come forward during the time of Invitation to Discipleship.

This is also a time to come for prayer, if you would like someone to pray for you or would like to make your decision public, men and women from our deacons, deaconess, and ministerial staff will be available to pray with you and help you at the altar.

Offering

Second, at the close of each service we have a time where our members have an opportunity to give an offering to the Lord.  While you are welcome to participate in the offering if you desire, we want you to know that we do not expect your participation.  We are not inviting you to Pilgrim Baptist Church for your money.  We want our service to uplift you.  We hope you will find in our church a warm family spirit, truth from God’s Word, and a home where you can grow in God’s grace.  Please do not feel any obligation to participate in the offering as a guest.

We Invite You To Come Visit Us!!!

Finally, if you are unable to attend on Sunday morning then we invite you to visit us onsite each Wednesday morning at 10:00 am for Bible Study.  Furthermore, online services are available for Wednesday Noon Prayer at 12:00 PM, and at 7:00 pm for Wednesday Evening Bible Study.  Every first Wednesday of the month, we have a Mid-Week Worship Service at 7:00 pm which has been cancelled due to COVID-19.  This special service will resume soon.
